Shweta Menon acted in the Malayalam film Tantra. B. Nagaraju of Sitarama Films has dubbed the film into Telugu, retaining the same name. It is worth mentioning here that the banner had earlier also dubbed the Tamil film Tirupati with Ajith in the lead and this is their second dubbed venture. Giving details about the film, the producer said, The film has several elements like suspense, horror and glamour. Story value is also good. Hence we dubbed it into Telugu. Writer Jayaprasad says, It is the story of a sorcerer who captures souls and tries to lure people with their help. How Shweta Menon and Aravindan tackle the sorcerer forms rest of the story. Siddique and Aiswarya play key roles in the movie.

Shooting of Sarkar, directed by Phani Raj, presented by Petro Fab International, and produced by K. Venkateswara Rao under the banner of Santi Priya Productions with Nagababu in a special role, is progressing well in Hyderabad. Producer says, The film has an excellent and thrilling story and movement. Who plays Sarkar is the suspense. We have recently completed canning of action scenes under the direction of fight master Avinash. We are making efforts to release the film in the first half of April after canning of songs. Vijayanand and Suhasini are in the lead. Brahmanandam, M.S. Narayana, Jeeva, Gundu Hanumantha Rao, Jayalalitha and others are in the cast. Camera is by Anand and music by Anoop.

Ram Charan is now getting ready to begin work for his new film. Director S.S. Rajamouli is busy with pre-production work. The film will be set in Rajasthan. Ram Charan will play a complete out-and-out mass character in the film. He is practicing horse riding and also exercising at the gym regularly for his role. Rana interested in animation

Daggubati Rana, grandson of D. Rama Naidu is now getting ready to make his debut in films. Selvaraghavan of AMAV fame will direct the film. Story discussions are still on and the work on the film will commence once the story is finalized. Rana is also interested in making an animation film. He has already done a course in animation and will make the animation film under the Suresh Productions banner in the next two to three years.

Climax in progress for BDC

Shooting of climax scenes are in progress for Brahmanandam Drama Company directed by I. Srikanth and produced by Palli Kesava Rao and K. Kishore under the banner of Sriramachandrulu Films. Producers say, It is the remake of a successful Bollywood film Bhagam Bhag. Brahmanandam is portraying the role of a drama company manager. Venu's new flick begins

A new film, directed by Shyamprasad and produced by Ravikiran under the banner of RBP Productions with Venu as hero, was launched at Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad on Monday. Bellamkonda Suresh gave the clap and Chalapati Rao switched on the camera for the muhurat shot picturised on hero Venu under the honorary direction of E.V.V. Satyanarayana and picturised by S. Gopal Reddy. Speaking on the occasion, Chalapati Rao says, The film has a very good story. Though the producer is a novice, he has good taste. We are sure that the film would be a definite hit. Director says, We will shoot for about 15 days at Palakole, Rajole and surrounding areas. The next schedule would be shot at Nanakramguda in April for about 20 days. Dialogue writer Poluri Ghatikachalam says, We discussed and deleloped the story for about nine months. The entire film would be a good entertainer. Story expansion is by Sarada Rajan, dialogues are by Ghatikachalam, camera is by Sattibabu, music is by Manisharma, art is by Krishna Maya, screenplay and direction are by Shyamprasad.

Director Chandrashekar Yeleti is now making a new film, Hai Haiga, with an all-new star cast. He has also set up his own production house Adarsa Media Limited and is turning producer with this film. Yeleti is now conducting auditions for the main roles; Naveen, son of actor Naresh, has been selected as hero. The heroine and other artists are being finalized. Shooting will commence by the end of this month.

Director Pamu Sreenu says, We have just completed editing the film. Though the entire world is advancing scientifically and technically, girls continue to be harassed in the name of love; at times, they are even killed mercilessly. Atrocities against women are increasing day by day. Our film debates various issues concerning this and we are trying to give a desirable and elegant solution. Chintakayala Ravi from 18th

Chintakayala Ravi, starring Venkatesh and Anushka in the lead roles, will commence shooting from the 18th of this month. Okka Raju Okka Rani fame Yogi is the director. Nallamalapu Srinivas is producing the film under the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Productions banner. Charmee has been signed up as the second heroine. The shooting will commence at Rama Naidu studios in Hyderabad.

The duo gave the hits Aadi and Samba. Kodali Nani, who produced Samba, is producing the new film. The story is by Vinayak and Akula Siva is writing the dialogues. The film will hit floors on April 28.

Pandurangadu at Raichur

K. Raghavendra Rao, who had brought out devotional films like Annamayya, Sri Manjunatha and Sriramadasu, is now directing Pandurangadu, which is being produced by K. Krishnamohan under the banner of RK Associates. Balakrishna is playing dual roles as Lord Krishna and also as his devotee Pundareekudu. Recently, some important scenes involving Balakrishna and Tabu were shot at Ramoji Film City. The shooting is going on at Badami near Raichur from February 11. A part of the film Vikramarkudu was shot here to suit the nativity of Bihar backdrop. Pandurangadu shooting would continue in this region till the end of February. Balakrishna, Sneha, Tabu and other lead artistes will be shooting here. Two songs were also planned to be canned in this backdrop. Later, the film unit would continue its schedule from March 2 at Hyderabad. Camera is by Jayaram, music is by Keeravani, while story and dialogues are by J.K. Bharavi.

Popular playback singers Mallikarjuna Rao and Gopika Purnima tied knot at Appanna Kalyanamandapam in Simhachalam near Visakhapatnam recently. Both of them proved good singers through Paaduthaa… Teeyagaa…, a television programme organized by popular playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam in ETV. Later, they became playback singers in the Telugu film industry. Mallikarjuna Rao belongs to Gopalapatnam of Visakhapatnam; Gopika Purnima hails from Vizianagaram. Both the singers fell in love, convinced their parents and got united with their blessings. Relatives of both bride and groom, besides several other well-wishers, attended the marriage. Immediately after their marriage, the couple offered prayers to Lord Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy in Simhachalam. Popular playback singer S.P. Sailaja, lyricist Bhuvanachandra, Chandramohans wife Jalandhara were among those who attended the marriage. Besides, local MLC Daadi Veerabhadra Rao, MLA Dronamraju Srinivas, former MLA Pethakamsetti Ganababu also blessed the couple.

Tollywood loses two comedians

The Telugu film industry lost two comedians on February 7. Kalpana Rai, seniormost comedienne of the Telugu film industry, died of prolonged illness in the early hours of February 7. A few hours later, another comedian, Lakshmipati, died. It is worth mentioning here that Lakshmipatis brother, director Shobhan, died a few days ago. Lakshmipati earned name and fame with his performance in Allari, Yevadigola Vaadidi, Ammayilu Abbayilu and Murari. The Telugu film industry expressed shock at the demise of the two comedians.

Varun, Tamanna together again

The hit pair of Varun Sandesh and Tamanna from Happy Days is coming together once again in a new film Pellivaarillu, produced by M.S. Raju and directed by Kodi Ramakrishna. Navdeep and Sindhu Menon is the other pair. Varun is presently acting in Dil Rajus Kotha Bangaru Lokam and Tamanna is acting in Ninna Nedu Repu with Ravi Krishan. Dil Raju expressed confidence that Varun and Tamanna will repeat their magic in the new film too.

RDB cameraman for S.J. Suryah film

S.J. Suryah is back to what he does best after a gap of three years. The controversial director is all set to start his pet project Puli in Telugu. He has also roped in National Award-winning cameraman Binodh Pradhan, who has acclaimed films like Rang De Basanti, Devdas and Mission Kashmir to his credit. Puli stars ‘Power Star’ Pawan Kalyan in the lead and is produced by Kanakarathna Movies, which has earlier given hit films like Dhil and Pokiri. The heroine is yet to be finalized. Music for the film is by Suryah’s favourite composer ‘Isai Puyal’ A.R. Rahman. The duo has earlier come with some wonderful tunes in New and Anbe Aaruyirae. “The film will be first made in Telugu. Later, I’ll be remaking the film in Tamil with myself as hero,” says S.J. Suryah, who is currently in Mumbai, reportedly on a hunt for his female lead. S.J. Suryah had earlier narrated Puli to Vijay. But the project did not take off due to creative differences between the two. Currently, Suryah is the hero opposite Shirin in Vil, directed by debutant Prabhakar. Over 80 per cent shooting of Bommana Brothers Chandana Sisters, directed by Srinivasa Reddy and produced by Ammiraju on the banner of Siri Cinema, with Naresh, Krishna Bhagawan as heroes and Ridhima and Farzana as heroines, is complete. Naresh says, Our surname is Bommana, so we are called Bommana Brothers. Kota Srinivasa Rao is playing the role of a millionaire; his daughters in the film are Manichandana and Sirichandana. So they are called Chandana sisters. We play thieves and the story is about how we marry the millionaires daughters. Krishna Bhagawan says, Our title earned a lot of attention and there is a very good response to it. We are sure that the film would also entertain the audiences in the same manner. Tanikella Bharani says, Ammiraju used to look after the dates of various artistes. Hence he was able to manage the dates of all these artistes and brought out a film with a typical combination. Srinivasa Reddy proved his calibre by bringing out a good entertainer. Srinivasa Reddy says, I am very happy that I got a chance to direct all my favourite comedians. Producer Ammiraju says, We will wrap up the shooting by February 20 and we will take up post-production work in March. We will release the audio in March and the film will come to theatres in April.

The film has been warded a U/A certificate by the Censor Board. S.A. Chiranjeevi fan kills himself!

There has been a lot of speculation about Chiranjeevis entry into politics. Though his fans want the actor to join, Chiranjeevi himself has not made any statement to this effect. On Sunday, Parthasarthi, a diehard fan of the actor, committed suicide. It is said that the reason was the actors delay in entering politics. The deceased had mentioned the same in his suicide note, it is alleged. According to the police, the 30-year-old home guard consumed poison and ended his life. In an earlier incident, fans of Chiranjeevi attacked actor Rajasekhar, when the latter commented that Chiranjeevi was not experienced enough for politics and he would not join the party launched by him.
